STAGHORN'S CURRENT EVENTS & UPCOMING LITTERS

We are excited to announce that we are expecting puppies this Fall.

1) An all chocolate litter is due October 10, 2011 Our Heidi (Staghorn's Hidin' at Skyland) has again been bred to Louis (Ch. Epoch's Louis Vuitton at Castlegar). Both of these parents are true ambassadors for our breed in terms of looks, health clearances, sound temperament, coat, trainability, etc. Louis is from a breeding program that we have long admired (Epoch) and is the sire of our Aretha. We were so happy with her that we decided to breed Heidi to him.We kept a lovely little firecracker Jenny (Staghorn's Hidden Agenda). She's top notch. Due to her good looks and temperament, we chose to repeat the breeding.

2) An all yellow litter is due October 11, 2011. Our Patsy (Madabout's Adieu to Staghorn's) was bred to Am Ch Ledgewood's Radar. Radar is a gorgeous yellow male at Adventure Labradors in the Buffalo NY region. He too has a very impressive list of credentials in terms of health clearances, titles, etc.

3) We have been asked by a family who purchased a chocolate female from us 7 years ago, to re-home the dog. Lindor is from one of our best chocolate litters. Lindor also lives with an 8 year old male, who was sired by our beloved Mac, but not bred by us. The family is looking to find a home for Buddy as well. If you are looking for a mature dog and would like to open your home to Lindor or Buddy (or better yet, both) please contact me.

If you are interested in visiting us with a view to being placed on our waiting list for either of these fine litters, or to adopt one of these mature Labs, please contact me at linda@staghorn-labs.com

We had great success at shows this summer. Stewie, (Staghorn's Harris Tweed) took Best of Breed at the SD&G shows, from the Sr. Puppy Classes, for a lovely 4 point win and went on to win Best Puppy in Group. Earlier this summer, at the Labrador Owner's Club Specialty Show, our Callie x Eagle kids had some pretty impressive wins. Sheena (Staghorn's Black Plaid) won Reserve Winner's Female, and BEST PUPPY IN SPECIALTY and Stewie, won BEST PUPPY IN SWEEPS under Jane Wewer, (Hunterleigh Reg'd). Our success at the Quebec specialty was almost as good, with Stewie taking BOS in Sweeps, and his class in the puppy classes, and Sheena took her class in Sweeps and second in the specialty, with some very positive words from the judge about her.

We kept a lovely little girl from our chocolate litter born to our Heidi (Staghorn's Hidin' at Skyland) and Louis (Ch. Epoch's Louis Vuitton at Castlegar). Both of these parents are true ambassadors for our breed in terms of looks, health, sound temperament, coat, trainability, etc. Louis is from a breeding program that we have long admired (Epoch) and is the sire of our Aretha. We were so happy with her that we decided to breed Heidi to him. We think we'll call this little firecracker Jenny (Staghorn's Hidden Agenda). She's top notch. And not to be outdone, Aretha's daughter Faith, (Aretha x Am Can Ch Labradales Coffee Crisp) is shaping up a lot like her mom, with a gently waved, dark chocolate coat and a perfectly wrapped tail straight off the back. We proudly co-own her with Kindspirit Labradors and she will be shown later this summer at select shows and specialties.

Planned breedings for summer/fall include yellows and blacks. Our girls are starting to come into season here, so watch for details of breedings and expected due dates.

In April, our lovely Beckham (Ch. Staghorn's Blame it on Beckham) took 2nd place at the prestigious Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac, 2011. We're proud to co-own this handsome dark chocolate boy with Julie Ellis of Breezeline Labradors. Our American/Canadian Champion Callie showed very well and garnished many nice comments from respected breeders and friends.

All our breeding stock are certified free and clear of hip/elbow dysplasia and Cerf cleared annually by a qualified canine opthalmogist, to have normal eyes, and/or to have no evidence of conditions which are suspected to be inherited. We also invest in genetic testing, to assure that we are selectively breeding parents who will not produce PRCD PRA, a genetically recessive, blinding eye disease. Many of our breeding stock also have cardiac clearances (ECHO). We encourage puppy buyers who are looking to adopt a new member of their family, (one that will hopefully be healthy both physically and psychologically) to inspect such health certificates and to ask questions of the Breeder, in order to assure yourself that you are dealing with a well educated Breeder who has a solid working understanding of the official breed standard, who knows the possible health issues in their breed and the risk factors related to them, (each breed can have them.) Also look for a Breeder who you feel can communicate with you in a fashion that will ensure years of comfortable and intelligent communication, especially should any issues arise that require you both to walk hand in hand together, for the benefit of your puppy. While I can provide numerous references from folks who have not experienced any problems with their Staghorn dogs, I can also provide references from people who contacted me regarding a problem and who were very satisfied with how I handled it and who continue to this day, to refer friends and family to me. We also encourage that you ensure that you are able to visit the parents, (sometimes the sire is not onsite, but sometimes he is) and to actually be able to get your hands on them, pet them and play with them, not simply see them through chain link fences or worse yet, in crates. This will help you predict what your puppy's temperament might be like. Assure yourself that they are not skittish, fearful or (of course), aggressive. While some may be skittish due to lack of socialization, it can also be a trait which is carried on genetically. Check out the facilities of the Breeder to determine their investment in their breeding program, and to determine whether or not you feel the Breeder is dedicated to their Labradors and will be around in several years, or whether they have the facilities to take back any dog that they have brought into this world, should the dog's buyer not be able to keep it. A reputable Breeder takes full responsibility for the LIFETIME of the dogs they breed, and they will NOT burden the Humane Societies or rescue shelters with their dogs.

All Staghorn puppies are sold on a non breeding agreement and pets must be spayed or neutered.
