Happy New Year to you and your family from Staghorn Registered Labrador Retrievers!
We had great success at the shows this year. At the Elora Gorge shows, on December 27/11, our Karma (Ch. Staghorn's Adios Amigos) finished her championship in fine style with a lovely 5 point win, going Best of Winners. She was the 4th Staghorn dog we finished this year. Maddie (Ch. Staghorn's Adieu to the Madness), Erma, (Ch. Staghorn's Soul Sister) and Stewie, (Ch. Staghorn's Harris Tweed). Of course, all our wins are Breeder/owner trained and handled and we are very proud.
Stewie took Best of Breed at the SD&G shows, from the Sr. Puppy Classes, for a lovely 4 point win and went on to win Best Puppy in Group. Earlier this summer, at the Labrador Owner's Club Specialty Show, our Callie x Eagle kids had some pretty impressive wins. Sheena (Staghorn's Black Plaid) won Reserve Winner's Female, and BEST PUPPY IN SPECIALTY and Stewie, won BEST PUPPY IN SWEEPS under Jane Wewer, (Hunterleigh Reg'd). Our success at the Quebec specialty was almost as good, with Stewie taking BOS in Sweeps, and his class in the puppy classes, and Sheena took her class in Sweeps and second in the specialty, with some very positive words from the judge about her.
We kept a lovely girl from our chocolate litter born to Heidi (Staghorn's Hidin' at Skyland) and Louis (Ch. Epoch's Louis Vuitton at Castlegar) in March, '11. Both of these parents are true ambassadors for our breed in terms of looks, health, sound temperament, coat, trainability, etc. Louis is from a breeding program that we have long admired (Epoch) and he is the sire of our Aretha. We were so happy with Aretha that we decided to breed her half sister Heidi to him. We call Heidi and Louis' daughter Jenny (Staghorn's Hidden Agenda). She's top notch. And not to be outdone, Aretha's daughter Faith, (Aretha x Am Can Ch Labradales Coffee Crisp) is shaping up a lot like her mom, with a gently waved, dark chocolate coat and a perfectly wrapped tail straight off the back. She's already champion pointed. We proudly co-own her with Kindspirit Labradors.
We also kept a darling yellow pup from our Patsy, Madabout's Adieu to Staghorn's and Kim Falker's boy, Am Ch Ledgewood's Radar. We're calling this little gal Staghorn's Radar Love. Her call name is Emmy, which is really "M.E", for Mary Ellen Bittlinger, who, along with her husband, was very kind and hospitable to us when we went to Buffalo for the breeding. Thanks so much! Our little keeper gal reminds us every day of your kindness. We also repeated the breeding on Heidi Jr and Louis, and placed yet another chocolate beauty with our good friends at Kindspirt. Watch for Staghorn 'N Kindspirit Have It (Hope) at a show in 2012.
Planned breedings for late winter - early spring include chocolates and a litter of yellows and blacks.
